Join the Florida Society of Rheumatology for an engaging virtual town hall exploring the often-overlooked relationship between obesity and psoriatic arthritis (PsA).

Dr. Elizabeth Perkins and Dr. Juliana Simonetti will examine obesity as a disease and its impact on patients with PsA, explore the intersection of disease pathogenesis between the two conditions, and offer practical strategies for delivering holistic care to patients living with PsA and obesity.

Elizabeth Perkins, MD

Dr. Elizabeth Perkins is a distinguished community rheumatologist and the founding physician of Rheumatology Care Center in Birmingham, Alabama, where she leads a thriving rheumatology practice she established in 2009. She completed internal medicine training at VCU in Richmond, Virginia, and a rheumatology fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

She has held numerous leadership roles within the American College of Rheumatology (ACR), including the Board of Directors, Strategic Taskforce, CORC, and Independent Practice Council. Her work reflects a strong commitment to excellence in rheumatology, patient-centered care, and the continued success of independent physicians. A passionate provider and patient advocate, Dr. Perkins believes that supporting thriving physicians is essential to achieving optimal patient outcomes. Outside of medicine, she enjoys dancing, exploring film festivals, and spending time with friends and loved ones.

Juliana Simonetti, MD

Dr. Juliana Simonetti is the Director of the Obesity Medicine Program and Co-Director of the Comprehensive Weight Management Program at the University of Utah. She earned her medical degree from the University of Utah School of Medicine and completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

She subsequently pursued a fellowship in Obesity Medicine and Clinical Nutrition at Boston University Medical Center. Board-certified in both Internal Medicine and Obesity Medicine, Dr. Simonetti brings more than a decade of experience to the field. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters on obesity treatment and contributed to the development of the AACE Obesity Guidelines.

Dr. Simonetti is a strong advocate for obesity education and improving access to obesity treatment and is the founder of the Mountain West Obesity Society. Her research focuses on understanding genetic factors contributing to obesity and exploring targeted approaches to treatment. Fluent in Portuguese and Spanish, she is deeply committed to serving underserved communities.
