Florida Attorney General Files Lawsuit Over Insulin Pricing

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has filed a lawsuit against major insulin manufacturers, pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs), and rebate aggregators, alleging that their pricing and rebate practices contributed to higher insulin and diabetes medication costs for patients. The lawsuit names Eli Lilly, Novo Nordisk, Sanofi, CVS Caremark, Express Scripts, OptumRx, and affiliated rebate entities.

The complaint alleges that manufacturers and PBMs used rebates and fees tied to preferred formulary placement while published list prices increased. The legal action includes claims under Florida's Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act and Florida's Antitrust Act. The Attorney General is seeking restitution, damages, civil penalties, and other relief.

The allegations remain unresolved in court. The case highlights ongoing questions surrounding prescription drug pricing, patient affordability, and access to essential diabetes medications.
