Gov. Ron DeSantis has vetoed CS/SB 688, legislation that would have created a licensure and regulatory framework for naturopathic medicine in Florida, including a Board of Naturopathic Medicine within the Department of Health.

In his veto message, the governor wrote that current Florida law already allows licensed healthcare professionals to incorporate naturopathic methods into patient care when appropriate and noted that Floridians have broad access to natural remedies without a new state licensing structure.

The proposal drew significant attention during the 2026 legislative session, with opponents raising concerns about patient safety, physician oversight and the creation of a licensed naturopathic medicine pathway.
